Cheesy Garlic Chicken Wraps
Makes: 4 wraps | Prep: 10 min | Cook: 10 min
Ingredients:
For the Wraps:
-
2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or finely diced (rotisserie chicken works perfectly)
-
1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese (low-moisture melts best)
-
½ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
-
3 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
-
2 green onions, thinly sliced
-
½ tsp garlic powder
-
½ tsp onion powder
-
Salt and black pepper to taste
-
4 large flour tortillas (burrito-size, 10-inch)
For the Garlic Butter Finish:
-
3 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
-
2 garlic cloves, minced (or ½ tsp garlic powder in a pinch)
-
1 Tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
-
Pinch of salt
Optional Dipping Sauce:
-
Ranch dressing, marinara, or garlic aioli
Instructions
1. Make the Cheesy Chicken Filling
In a large bowl, combine the shredded chicken, 1 cup of the mozzarella, all the cheddar, softened cream cheese, green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly with a fork or your hands until everything is evenly combined and the cream cheese binds it together. It should be a cohesive, scoopable mixture.
2. Assemble the Wraps
Lay a tortilla flat on a clean surface. Spoon about a quarter of the chicken mixture into the center, spreading it slightly but leaving a 1½-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle a little of the remaining mozzarella on top (this helps the seal). Fold the sides in over the filling, then roll tightly from the bottom up like a burrito. The cream cheese in the filling acts as glue—press gently to seal the seam.
3. Mix the Garlic Butter
In a small bowl, stir together the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and a pinch of salt.
4. Toast the Wraps
Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the wraps seam-side down in the dry pan. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crisp. Brush the tops generously with garlic butter while they cook. Flip carefully and cook the other side for another 2–3 minutes until equally golden. Brush the now-top side with more garlic butter right after flipping.
5. Rest & Slice
Transfer the wraps to a cutting board and let them rest for 1–2 minutes (the cheese is molten inside). Slice each wrap in half diagonally with a sharp serrated knife. Serve immediately with ranch, marinara, or garlic aioli for dipping.
Tips & Swaps
-
Chicken prep: Shredded rotisserie chicken is ideal for speed and moisture. Leftover grilled or pan-seared chicken works great too. Avoid overcooked dry chicken—the filling relies on some moisture from the meat.
-
Extra crispy method: For an even crunchier exterior, sprinkle a light dusting of grated Parmesan on the outside of the wrap just before it finishes toasting. It creates a frico-style cheese crust.
-
Spice it up: Add a few dashes of hot sauce or a spoonful of diced pickled jalapeños to the filling. A pinch of cayenne or smoked paprika also adds warmth.
-
Bacon addition: Fold in ¼ cup of crispy crumbled bacon to the filling for a smoky, salty boost.
-
Vegetable boost: Add a handful of fresh baby spinach or sautéed mushrooms to the filling—just be careful not to overstuff.
-
Make ahead: Assemble the wraps completely (without toasting), wrap tightly in foil, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Toast when ready to eat, adding 1–2 minutes to the cook time if going straight from the fridge.
-
Freezer-friendly: Freeze un-toasted wraps individually in plastic wrap, then in a freezer bag. Toast from frozen over medium-low heat for about 5–6 minutes per side with the lid on to ensure the center melts before the outside burns.
Dipping Sauce Ideas
-
Creamy Garlic Aioli: Mix ¼ cup mayo, 1 minced garlic clove, 1 tsp lemon juice, salt.
-
Spicy Ranch: Combine ¼ cup ranch with a teaspoon of hot sauce and a pinch of smoked paprika.
-
Quick Marinara: Warm ½ cup jarred marinara with a small pat of butter and a pinch of dried oregano.
Air Fryer Instructions
Preheat air fryer to 375°F. Place wraps seam-side down in the basket, brush with garlic butter. Air fry for 5–6 minutes, flip, brush again, and cook 3–4 more minutes until golden and crispy.
