It’s true! That little arrow is one of those brilliant design features that is incredibly simple and helpful, yet somehow remains a secret to many drivers.
If you look at your car’s dashboard fuel gauge, you’ll see a small icon of a gas pump. On that pump, there will be a tiny arrow pointing either left or right.
That arrow tells you which side of the car the fuel door (the gas cap) is on.
-
Arrow pointing LEFT: The fuel filler is on the driver’s side of the car.
-
Arrow pointing RIGHT: The fuel filler is on the passenger’s side of the car.
This is incredibly handy when you’re driving a rental car, a friend’s car, or a new vehicle for the first time. It saves you the guesswork (and potential embarrassment) of pulling up to the pump on the wrong side and having to stretch the hose around your car.
It’s a small detail, but once you know about it, you’ll notice it every single time you get in a car
